GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian action-driven organization, which offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. The MSF movement is built around six operational directorates supported by MSF’s 21 sections, 24 associations and other offices together worldwide.
MAIN PURPOSE
Provide advanced technical expertise and leadership in the design, adaptation, and implementation of MSF’s Field Simulation methodologies, contributing to the integration of MSF’s Field Simulation methodologies across Operational Centers, within the strategic framework defined by the Simulation Strategic Initiative.The role supports the global Simulation strategic initiative by strengthening technical standards and building capacity to improve quality, safety, and preparedness.
JOB OVERVIEW
This role acts as MSF’s senior technical reference for humanitarian simulation, driving innovation and consistency in simulation practices across Operational Centers. It collaborates closely with the Simulation Lead and inter-OC governance platforms to ensure methodologies are embedded in operational frameworks and aligned with strategic priorities. The position focuses on technical leadership, capacity building, and knowledge transfer, while fostering partnerships and supporting pilots (when strictly necessary to validate methodologies or demonstrate added value) in strengthening MSF’s operational and medical capacity worldwide.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN TASKS
- Provide advanced technical expertise in the design, adaptation, and implementation of MSF’s Field Simulation methodologies, ensuring alignment with medical-operational priorities.
- Lead the development and standardization of simulation tools, guidelines, and best practices to guarantee quality and interoperability across Operational Centers.
- Deliver capacity-building initiatives, including advanced training, mentoring, and technical support to strengthen internal simulation expertise.
- Collaborate with inter-OC governance bodies (MedOps, RIOD) and Project Manager to ensure sustainability and integration of simulation practices into operational frameworks.
- Support pilot projects only when strictly necessary to validate methodologies or demonstrate added value for preparedness and risk reduction, ensuring proper evaluation and documentation.
- Monitor and evaluate simulation activities, providing recommendations to improve technical quality, impact, and alignment with agreed standards.
- Drive knowledge management and innovation, analyzing lessons learned and promoting new approaches and technologies relevant to humanitarian simulation.
- Represent MSF externally, engaging with technical networks and partners to strengthen MSF’s leadership and influence in humanitarian simulation.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
- Medical degree, or advanced degree in health sciences, public health, or related field.
- Formal training or certification in simulation-based education from a recognized academic institute is highly desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in medical or operational contexts, including at least 5 years in simulation design and implementation.
- Previous MSF field experience (project or mission coordination in regular and emergency interventions) strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and adapt simulation methodologies for diverse humanitarian contexts.
- Experience in capacity building, mentoring, and technical advisory roles.
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-OC environments.
- English is mandatory; French and Spanish are attractive.

CONDITIONS
- Position based in Barcelona or any MSF-OCBA Spanish Hub: Bilbao, Sevilla or Madrid. Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (e.g., residency, work permit, etc.).
- Duration of position: Temporary position: 12 months
- Full-time position.
- Annual gross salary: level HQ-4B (divided in 12 monthly payments) + secondary benefits based on MSF OCBA Reward Policy.
- Starting date: ASAP.
