The Global Relations Secretariat (GRS) supports the implementation of the Secretary General’s strategic orientations by co-ordinating the Organisation’s relations with partner countries and with other international organisations. It advises the Office of the Secretary-General and other OECD Directorates on how to strengthen co-operation with key partner countries, regions and organisations. GRS also serves the OECD External Relations Committee (ERC), working with members to help them reach consensus on global relations priorities and ensuring that relevant partners are effectively engaged in the Organisation’s work.

Role

The Young Associate (YA) working in the Director’s Office and under the supervision of the Senior Counsellor will support the Directorate on following up on partner countries’ participation in OECD bodies and in identifying areas of convergence or divergence between OECD standards and those of selected partner countries. The YA will also contribute to and co-ordinate the preparations of the analytical and policy content of briefings, talking points, reports, letters and other strategic documents.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carry out analysis and background research on partner countries as required.
  • Draft and/or review speeches, talking points and briefing notes for the Senior Counsellor.
  • Undertake time-sensitive activities to support the work of the Directorate.
  • Together with colleagues, support their initiatives to disseminate our work, including the preparation of any material.
  • Follow the work of relevant OECD committees as it relates to partner country participation and maintain links with Member Country Delegations and staff in other Directorates.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • Undergraduate degree in one of the following disciplines: economics, economic development, public policy or international relations.
  • Course work in economics and/or international relations required.

Skills and Tools

  • Ability to carry out research, draft methodological and analytical papers, as well as briefing notes, brochures and meeting summaries.
  • Ability to work on different projects with varying timelines.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with one of GRS’ partner countries would be a distinct advantage.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level.

What the OECD offers

  • Basic monthly salary from EUR 3 468, plus allowances and benefits depending on personal circumstances, exempt from French income tax
