ABOUT RESCUE DADA CENTRE

Rescue Dada Centre is a registered Charitable Children’s Institution (CCI) under the legal trusteeship of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. Established in 1992, the Centre’s mission is to reduce the number of street-connected children in Nairobi, with a particular focus on girls. It aims to empower girls to achieve their full potential while enhancing the livelihood security of their caregivers.

The Centre implements both preventive and curative interventions, including the rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, and resocialization of street-connected girls into safe and supportive family environments. In addition, Rescue Dada Centre provides educational sponsorship, strengthens caregivers’ skills and economic capacity, and promotes increased commitment among families, communities, and government institutions to uphold and protect children’s rights

JOB PURPOSE

The teacher will report to the Head of Department and is responsible for meeting the educational and social needs of young girls and vulnerable young mothers with low literacy levels enrolled in the Rescue Dada Centre’s Child Protection Programme/Cosmetology training. S/he will treat the target group with respect, sensitivity and affection, and will maintain discipline without recourse to physical punishment. S/he has to be flexible as the requirements vary according to the current situation at RDC and be committed to the promotion of children’s rights.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Support the staff to conduct academic and special needs baseline assessment for all girls enrolled in the Child Protection Programme, to identify each girl’s educational needs, and allocate her to the most appropriate class.
  2. Define educational objectives and how to achieve the same together with each girl/vulnerable mother to be achieved during each term;
  3. Provide special and literacy education to needy girls geared towards developing basic literacy, mental, emotional and social capabilities of girls/vulnerable young mothers;
  4. Use age-appropriate teaching approaches enabling girls/ vulnerable young mothers to enjoy learning.
  5. Create and maintain teaching aids, and ensure their proper use.
  6. Maintain a personal educational file for every girl/vulnerable mother in the basic literacy class for documentation.
  7. Conduct regular progress assessments of all girls in the class, according to defined individual goals.
  8. Organise extracurricular activities of the education department to promote the physical well-being, teamwork and talent development of the girls;
  9. Support the educational staff in conducting extracurricular activities and supervising all girls.
  10. Foster the spiritual and moral growth of girls through the facilitation of weekly religious tuition and pastoral instruction, monthly mass and daily prayers.
  11. Work closely with staff members from the Child Protection Programme to ensure quality and holistic care for all girls enrolled in the Rescue Dada centre’s Child Protection Programme.

PERSONAL PROFILE:

Education and Experience required:

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) or P1 Certificate from a recognised institution
  • A Strong understanding of CBE implementation and CBE certification will be an added advantage.
  • At least two (2) years’ relevant work experience.
  • Solid understanding of children’s rights and their promotion through social services activities.
  • Sound knowledge of computer packages.
