The Opportunity – Communication Officer, Sarajevo Bosnia and Herzegovina, NATIONAL POST ONLY

As a member of the Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) Department, the Communication Officer will contribute to the development of the programme’s communication strategy, both in development and emergency context, will ensure its regular update, and is responsible for implementation of the communication, visibility and documentation activities. This includes strategic approach to communication and specific communication and documentation initiatives at program/project level. More specifically, it implies providing support to the smooth implementation of global campaigns at national level, identification of communication opportunities, actively engaging in campaigning initiatives, identifying and pursuing documentation opportunities and ensuring growing visibility of our organization in line with the new branding guidelines. The Communication Officer will liaise with programme staff to ensure communication strategy and particular plans are implemented and provide support in communications at different events/meetings if necessary, prepare media and documentation reports on relevant activities and actions taken. The Communication Officer will work in close coordination with the Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have: 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

University degree in relevant field which can be replaced with at least 5 years of professional experience in journalism and other communication related work

A general appreciation of the issues concerning the INGO sector with an in-depth knowledge in communication and documentation

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in order to communicate effectively both within the organisation and with external audiences

Experience of writing briefing materials, feature stories and other communication related products

Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner

Demonstrable ability to coordinate the work in a collaborative and participatory way with colleagues to achieve shared objectives for the programme 

Sound thinking and organisational skills, including the ability to manage time effectively.

The capacity to operate within an NGO environment (e.g. the potential to develop strategic alliances or other forms of collaboration, to operate within tight budget constraints). 

Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets

Has a strong network within media to draw from

Excellent command of English

Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
