NPA is seeking a Regional Director South-East Europe, Central-Asia and South-East Asia

Wars and armed conflicts come to an end; however, the remnants of war continue to impact millions of people for decades to follow. Mine Action and Disarmament’s vision is a world where people and communities are safe, resilient and protected before, during and after armed conflict. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders, we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by landmines and explosive remnants of war. Currently, NPA has more than 22 Mine Action Programmes ongoing in Africa, Asia, Latin America, South-East Europe and the Middle East.

NPA is seeking a Regional Director South-East Europe, Central-Asia and South-East Asia for management of what essentially is half of our global programme portfolio, as part of the Department for Mine Action and Disarmament management team in Oslo, Norway.

In this position your main tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Management of assigned regions (currently South-East Europe, Central-Asia, South-East Asia and the Pacific), including programme/project delivery and quality, financing and recruitment
  • Delivery of country programmes in accordance with the country strategies, annual plans, donor contracts, agreements with national authorities and Norwegian People’s Aid’s overall strategy
  • Management of the advisors and country directors within the allocated geographical portfolio
  • Member of the DMAD management team and hereunder expected to contribute towards development of the global strategy and global action plans, the successful implementation and timely/accurate reporting
  • In collaboration with DMAD management team, develop the department’s overall strategic direction, including thematic priorities, geographical focus and choice of country programmes
  • Participate in the development of the department’s operational processes and methodologies
  • Continuous networking with relevant international organizations and other partners within the mine action and disarmament sector
  • Represent NPA at high-level events such as APMBC and CCM state parties’ meetings, donor conferences and the annual NDM

To be succesfull in this role you must have:

  • Relevant higher education and professional experience and/or equivalent military education and professional experience
  • Leadership and management experience from Mine Action and Disarmament
  • A minimum of five years working experience from the Mine Action and Disarmament sector
  • Excellent written and verbal English language proficiency

We consider it an advantage if you also have:

  • Previous experience from working internationally at senior management level
  • Excellent ability to work systematically and independently and deliver quality results
  • Experience from high-level representation such as APMBC and CCM state parties’ meetings, donor conferences and annual NDM
  • Experience from implementation of operational mine action projects and activities
  • Excellent communication-, networking- and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to promote a positive and open working environment, including profound understanding of the importance of modern management related to gender and diversity, safeguarding and code of conduct
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities
  • Strong ability to produce written material
  • The possibility and motivation required for regular international travels
  • Good IT and communication skills
  • Norwegian language skills

Preferred starting date: 01 August 2020
