    • Support the CBi Project Coordinator in strategic planning and implementation of the initiative in line with the CBi strategy and Executive Committee recommendations;
    • Provide support to the multi-stakeholder governance structure of CBi, including both the Executive Committee and the Operations Management Committee, as well as engagement with both funding and non-funding partners;
    • Strengthening existing CBi Member Networks and identify and establish new private sector networks to coordinate and increase business engagement in disaster management; 
    • Support the public profile of CBi as a global multi-stakeholder initiative that provides a mechanism for the private sector to engage with the United Nations system, national governments and civil society in a coordinated manner across all stages of disaster management;
    • Provide guidance on development and formulation of new project proposals and workplans related to the CBi strategy and completion of evaluation reports of existing activities.
    • As required, engage and liaise with existing CBi partners to ensure that their commitment and support to the initiative is maintained;
    • According to CBi partnership strategy, identify, contact and engage new partners, including private sector organizations, UN Agencies, NGOs and governments;
    • Mobilize, foster and strengthen strategic partnerships with private sector platforms and networks, and provide support to other private sector relationship managers across OCHA/UNDP and make suggestions for activities specifically aimed at the private sector in the context of disaster management;
    • Advocate for and position the mandate of CBi in global fora and support advocacy at regional and national level.
    • Design and lead the implementation of a knowledge management and learning strategy, working closely with the CBi partners, to support knowledge extraction, analysis, documentation, codification of results/lessons learned in the implementation of the initiative and further learning from the knowledge;
    • Through in-depth research and analysis, contribute to the development and drafting of policy, guidance notes and other knowledge products and training materials for CBi focusing on private sector engagement for disaster management;
    • Develop and manage streamlined knowledge management systems to encourage knowledge sharing and efficient capture of the knowledge produced by CBi, its members, partners and relevant stakeholders;
    • Contribute actively to communities of practice to ensure wide dissemination of best practices and lessons learned from the implementation of programmes related to private sector engagement in disaster management;
    • Support policy dialogue in areas relevant to CBi through synthesis of knowledge emerging from the CBi activities;
    • Lead the learning and capacity development engagements of CBi Member Networks and OCHA/UNDP staff in application of tools and practice;
    • Bring in knowledge management partners allowing CBi to amplify its work in knowledge creation and sharing.

    • Master’s Degree in International Relations, Economics/Management, Development Studies or related field. 
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the Advanced University degree.
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in humanitarian or development work, out of which at least 3 years are related to private sector programs and partnerships in development and humanitarian situations;
    • Sound understanding and knowledge of disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, response and recovery is an asset; 
    • Experience in partnership development and management with other UN agencies, donors, and other development stakeholders is an asset; 
    • Experience in knowledge management is an asset;
    • Experience in writing briefings, reports, periodic reporting, reviewing and editing documents is required;
    • A minimum of two years of experience of working in or supporting a developing country in humanitarian and/or development programs, emergency or early recovery situations is required;
    • Experience in the UN system related to disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, response and recovery would be desirable;
    • Experience in working with international organizations and donors in terms of partnership building initiatives on disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, response and recovery is an asset;
    • Experience in management of development programs (including financial management) would be highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience of initiative, client-orientation, risk taking, and working in complex and time-pressured contexts is an asset;
    • Experience working and living in developing countries is an asset.
    • Proficiency in English.
    • Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.

    Externally advertised GS fixed-term appointment and temporary appointment (TA) positions located in New York/Washington D.C. are open to candidates who are either US Permanent Residents, US Citizens or holders of a valid G4 visa at the time of their application and whose G4 visa has been acquired on account of their employment in the UN Systems based in New York or Washington, DC.

    Selected candidates who meet the above mentioned eligibility criteria are responsible for their own travel and/or relocation costs.

    Selection to GS fixed-term appointment positions at Headquarters requires passing a UN administered clerical test (ASAT). External applicants to General Service (GS) positions in New York who already possess a Bachelor’s degree or an accredited certification in a technical field (e.g. IT, Finance, or Procurement) will not need to obtain/pass the UN Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT). However, passing specialized tests (e.g. Finance and Accounting technical assessments) may still be required for some General Service (GS) positions, as specified in the vacancy announcement.

    Applicants under serious consideration for short-listing of posts requiring accountancy and finance skills, must take the UNDP Accountancy and Finance Test (UNDP AFT) prior to short-listing.
