In Papua New Guinea (PNG), UNICEF’s works effectively both ‘upstream’ (with governments) and ‘downstream’ (at the grassroots level) to carry out its mission through a programme of cooperation jointly developed with the government guides our work in the country.

    How can you make a difference?

    Under the direct supervision and guidance of the supervisor, the Procurement Assistant is responsible for executing a broad variety of routine tasks and some specialized for the respective section, requiring thorough knowledge of UNICEF administrative procedures, processes and policies. Specifically, this post prepares requests for proposals and purchase orders for all kinds of goods and services, obtains quotations from local vendors, monitors status of financing and maintains financial records of purchase allotment accounts: for purchasing standard office supplies, furniture and equipment; as well as ensure that incoming and outgoing shipments are cleared and dispatched without delay through prompt and anticipated preparation of documents in conformance with the government and UNICEF policies.

    Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the field of work. Training in procurement processes is an advantage.
    A minimum of 5 years of relevant administrative or clerical work experience is required. Three years in the international setting of supply and logistics operations a definite advantage.
    Fluency in English and the local working language of the duty station.

    This position is classified as “temporary” which normally means no conversion to a long-term post is to be expected.
