    Role purpose:

This is an exciting time at ShelterBox and we have ambitious targets of sheltering more and more families each year. Support communities affected by disaster by coordinating and leading ShelterBox’s disaster responses. Deploy when needed to disaster areas with damaged/missing infrastructure, few facilities and communities experiencing severe trauma. Provide phone support to deployed teams on a rota basis. Provide deployment and administrative support to the Operations Team Leads.

    Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people who want to get things done, with a strong interest in supporting humanitarian responses. The right person will have knowledge of the sector and excellent interpersonal skills; they will enjoy developing relationships with volunteers, colleagues and contacts across cultures, be able to handle difficult situations, and be able to work both operationally and tactically.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

    · Research current disasters around the world to assess need for emergency shelter.

    · Coordinate and lead responses to assigned disasters; to include the selection of ShelterBox response team members, preparation of deployment briefings and other resources, coordination with logistics staff to ensure the timely arrival of staff and aid, and advice on security practices and procedures.

    · Report verbally or in written format internal and external audiences as required.

    · Deploy to areas affected by disaster as agreed.

    · Establish, develop and lead on working relationships with INGO’s, governments, coordination mechanisms, and other suitable actors.

    · Provide a first point of contact for deployed teams on a 24/7 routine and emergency basis as part of a roster.

    · Undertake post-deployment debriefs with deployed staff and volunteers.

    · Ensure adherence to ShelterBox operational procedures and policies.

    · Keep up-to-date with response team, deployment, Operations, and industry developments.

    · Deliver work to support the agreed development and delivery priorities of the department.

    · Mentor staff and volunteers in operational roles.

    · Support selection and development of operational volunteers.

    · Promote and demonstrate humanitarian principles in all activity.

    · Support the Crisis Management Team as required.

    · Support Fundraising and Communications to maximise Operations Department contributions in support of news and promotional efforts.

    · Represent ShelterBox in any capacity as required and deputise for Operations Team Leads as appropriate.

    · Work away from home, which is unlikely to exceed 1 month at any one time; this may be UK or overseas training or deployment to disaster affected areas.

    · Any other duties as required which are deemed appropriate to the level and grade of the post.

    Who are we?

ShelterBox is committed to working towards a future where no family goes without shelter, but we have our work cut out for us. In 2018, around 88 million people were displaced by conflict and natural disasters. Some projections suggest that this figure will grow to 200 million within 10 years.

ShelterBox is made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right – that shelter from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. No ifs. No buts. We’re working to change this by providing emergency shelter.

We don’t believe that one size fits all. We work hard to understand the impact of each emergency and the need this creates within individual communities.

We deliver aid to the four corners of the earth, reaching people in need by standing on strong shoulders.

We are fortunate to have the help of an amazing network of global affiliates, partners like Rotary International, supporters worldwide, and dedicated volunteers.

Our highly trained ShelterBox response teams then go the extra mile to find the people left most vulnerable after a disaster – to make sure that no one gets forgotten or left behind. Founded and based in the county of Cornwall, in only sixteen years ShelterBox has grown into a major force in international humanitarian aid.

Do you have the skills, personality and compassion to help us write our next chapter? This is an exciting time at ShelterBox as we grow our reach and the impact of our work. We are looking for people to help us expand, develop and excel. People with big hearts and big dreams.

We are impatient to see a world where no family is left without shelter. Are you?
