TB Medical Officer Contractor KwaZulu Natal / eThekwini
TB HIV Care, in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation. Purpose
The TB Medical Officer will apply their clinical knowledge and expertise to capacitate and mentor facility-based staff in the diagnosis of sputum-negative TB, including clinical TB diagnosis based on DCXR, childhood TB diagnosis and assessment for LTBI and treatment.
Minimum requirements:
- MBChB Degree
- HPCSA registration
- At least 3 years’ experience in prevention and care of TB patients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to communicate in English.Afrikaans or isiXhosa
- Valid driver’s licence
- Clear criminal record
Key Performance Areas
1. Capacity building and mentorship:
- Maintain effective relationships with district and facility clinical management structures
- Work closely with MDR District Coordinator and Training team to develop mentorship programme and support capacitation of facility-based staff in the diagnosis of sputum-negative TB and TB with atypical presentation
- Support mobile digital CXR teams with clinical expertise and mentorship
- Build capacity around assessment of LTBI and provision of treatment to high risk groups including children
5yrs and contacts DR-TB patients * Build capacity and provide technical expertise and guidance in the clinical care of HIV/TB patients at a district level
2. Quality assurance and improvement:
- Ensure quality clinical care in supported facilities
- Work in collaboration with the District QI Advisor and M&E Officer to support quality improvement activities and promote provision of high-quality service
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities, including responding to queries
- Support adherence to infection prevention control protocols
3. Reporting:
- Support adverse drug safety monitoring (ADSM) activities and roll out of pharmacovigilance monitoring system (PViMS)
- Build capacity in clinical staff to support implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to improve TB and HIV prevention and care
4. Research:
- Participate in operational research and pilot projects implemented to improve DS- and DR-TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the mentorship programme
- Liaise with research and Department of Health partners in evaluation of activities
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
- Good leadership, mentoring and people management skills
- Proficient computer skills including email, record keeping, routine database activity, internet software, spreadsheet software and word processing software
- Excellent attention to detail and deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
- Good problem-solving ability
- Very good reasoning ability
- Previous exposure within an NGO/NPO environment
- Mentorship and capacity building skills
- Must have prior knowledge and experience of TB case management
- Attention to detail, good time management and monitoring skills
