Are you the Language Associate we need?

Translators without Borders needs volunteer Language Associates to help us provide humanitarian information to people in crisis situations. We need people who are fluent in English and who are native speakers of one of the following languages:

• Arabic

• French

• Spanish

The TWB Language Associate role is varied and interesting

As a TWB Language Associate, you’ll be the main contact point for the volunteer translators who work in your chosen language. You’ll generally make it easy for them to provide language services to our nonprofit partners. Our partners don’t always have the resources to communicate directly with people affected by humanitarian crises. Our Language Associates help us to fill those critical language gaps and increase our partners’ impact and effectiveness.

If you join our team, you will take on a variety of tasks. For example, you’ll:

• build and manage our community of volunteer translators

• translate documents from English into your native language

• review and revise translated documents, including machine-translation output

• contribute terminology to our translation databases.

You’ll do all of that while you work from home at times that suit you. The role typically takes around 6 hours per week.

You’ll receive training and hands-on experience

TWB Language Associate is an unpaid role. However, it offers you a chance to develop new skills and contacts in the language services industry and humanitarian sector.

We’ll provide training in relevant areas including:

• translation and revision best practices

• quality assurance processes

• computer-assisted translation tools

• recruitment and mentoring

• community management

• data management, and

• project management.

Everyone with a passion for languages is welcome to apply.

You just need:

• native knowledge of one of the languages listed above

• a high standard of written and spoken English

• the ability to interact with and motivate volunteer translators

• internet access
