Housing and Urban Development Senior Specialist/Specialist
Background: The IDB is seeking a professional with expertise in Housing and Urban Development, Urban Planning and/or Urban Economics. The team: The Housing and Urban Development Division (HUD) is responsible for developing and coordinating analytical support and critical thinking with a forward-looking vision on cities’ sustainability in LAC, thus seeking to contribute to the goals and commitments included in both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda. What you’ll do:
- Conduct and/or support policy dialogue with public and private institutions, development partners and other actors involved in housing and urban development
- Identify constraints and needs for development in the sector and design of possible policy reforms, with an emphasis on implications on climate change and sustainability.
- Contribute to the development of country strategies and programs, identifying priority action lines in housing and urban development,ensuring high quality technical and operational oversight.

- Conceptualize, prepare, process and execute technical assistance programs in support of project preparation, sector development and/or strengthening in housing and urban development.
- Assess new opportunities to apply innovation (e.g. digital, technological, behavioral), co-develop pilots for testing hypothesis in partnership with IDB’s Cities Lab, and follow through findings.
- Network with urban actors in countries of responsibility, find opportunities to strengthen relations and support the exchange of methodologies
Qualifications
Skills you’ll need:
- Academic Degree/Experience: Master’s degree in economics, urban planning, architecture, finance, engineering or a related discipline. PhD desirable. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field.
- Languages: Proficiency (oral and written) in English and Spanish. Portuguese and French are a plus.
- Areas of Expertise: Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in a multilateral development organization or similar institution is desired.

Opportunity Summary:
Type of contract: Fixed term, international/local staff.
Starting date: Upon agreement with selected candidate.
Location: Brasilia, Brazil Requirements: Candidates must be citizens of one of the IDB’s 48 member countries and have no family members currently working at the bank.
