Join For Water

Water is essential for a dignified life and a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights. However, 1 in 10 people do not yet have access to drinking water and 1 in 3 lacks their own toilet. At the same time, the climate crisis and our own consumption threaten water resources.

That’s why we focus on access to water: for everyone, even for the generations after us. This requires technical ingenuity, participatory management and policies combating inequality. Around these themes we support local partners in Mali, Benin, Burundi, Uganda, DR Congo and Haiti. In Belgium, we support organizations and citizens to reduce their water footprint.

Your assignments

S You ensure a the Join For Water strategy, policy and portfolio based on current insights on development cooperation, international financing mechanisms and the water sector.

o From a rights approach, you’ll explore themes of sustainable and inclusive access to water and sanitation in collaboration with experts at headquarters and country offices.

o You will deepen our approach to capacity building of partners in the water sector.

o You can translate our approach and results into bundled expertise and in project proposals that offer added value for local partners, institutional donors and the water sector.

o You seek synergy between our interventions in our partner countries and in Belgium.

S You are responsible for project formulation, narrative and financial reporting, in collaboration with our Administration and Finance Department.

S You ensure the quality execution of our programs by continuously improving planning, monitoring and evaluation.

S You have relationships with institutional donors. You will expand our network of experts in the water and environmental sector and development cooperation, in tandem with the Director.

S You will support the communication with the grassroots (our members, volunteers, individual donors and companies) by helping to shape a high-quality information flow from the partner countries in collaboration with our Communication and Fundraising department.

S You will manage the program team at the head office in Ghent.

S You are responsible for the follow-up of the program duties of regional representatives in our partner countries,in close cooperation with the Director.

S You are a member of the Executive Committee and contribute to the overall strategy and policy development of Join For Water..

Your profile

S Master level or equivalent by experience.

S At least 7 years of work experience, several years of which are abroad.

S At least 3 years of experience in managing a team. You know how to motivate people in their strength, both face-to-face and remote. Cooperation, internal participation and decisiveness are the keys to your success.

S Thorough experience and /or knowledge of the water sector. An active network in this sector is an asset.

S Clearly demonstrable experience in dealing with institutional donors, both in terms of formulation and narrative and financial reporting.

S You are a networker who knows how to diplomatically engage with different types of interlocutors. You have experience with different levels of civil society and of governments in our partner countries..

S You are analytical and able to work in a planned and policy-based way. Working with numbers doesn’t deter you.

S Very good active knowledge of Dutch and French; good knowledge of English.

Our offer

S Remuneration competitive within the sector (e.g. 3.919 euros gross with 10 years of seniority); meal vouchers; 13th month; commuting fee by public transport.

S Full-time contract for an indefinite period.
