    The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

    The Opportunity

The Head of DRM Technical Team is a brand-new role within the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) team at Plan International, responsible for providing strategic oversight and leadership to implement gender transformative DRM programmes.

In this role you will be part of the Disaster Risk Management Global Hub Leadership Team and lead a team of deployable and technical specialists across priority sectors. This position will provide programmatic thought leadership, guidance and technical support across all Areas of Global Distinctiveness with priority focus on Child Protection in Emergencies (CPIE), Education in Emergencies (EIE) and Youth Economic Empowerment in Emergencies (YEEIE) and Resilience, spanning across the humanitarian/development nexus.

The Head of DRM Technical Team will also be required to work closely with regional and country leadership teams as well as building and maintaining close working relationships with relevant internal departments. Externally, you will ensure a strong profile and proactive engagement and contribution of Plan International to humanitarian discussions and processes through relevant external clusters, working groups and coordination mechanisms in the sector.

    The Individual

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed Head of DRM Technical Team with proven experience of exercising leadership functions in humanitarian crisis and long-term development.

To be successful in this role you will require a proven understanding of Disaster Risk Management, child rights and gender in development concepts and of the humanitarian architecture, coordination mechanisms and its various working groups, including experience of influencing and positing work within it.

The Head of DRM Technical Team will need knowledge of programming in challenging environments with the ability to demonstrate quick and sound understanding and appreciation of internal and external contexts that may be affecting a given crisis.

Experience of working with the UN, donors, governments and other institutions and networks will also be beneficial for this role.

The role requires an individual with strong inter-personal, networking and negotiation skills with a proven record of developing and managing effective and high performing teams.
