Project Director

FHI 360 seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Project Director for an upcoming USAID-funded global project. The project seeks to build upon and expand USAID’s efforts to leverage the roles of communities to strengthen and adapt existing community health platforms to support national policies and implementation plans for COVID-19 preparedness and response (non-pharmaceutical interventions) and continuity of existing primary healthcare services based on national guidelines and needs/priorities to create lasting structures for future response. The Project Director will oversee the work of the global team, ensure achievement of program deliverables and serve as a primary communicator with USAID. **Position based in DC/NC.

Position Summary
 

The Project Director leads the project and is responsible for setting and achieving the project’s vision and strategy; managing critical relationships with national and international partners, USAID, and key stakeholders; ensuring technical quality of interventions; and overseeing programmatic and operational compliance. The Director has overall programmatic and fiscal responsibility for the project and will ensure project results are achieved, accomplishments are communicated effectively, financial and programmatic reports are submitted in a timely fashion, and project functions are in strict accordance with US government (USG) and FHI 360 rules and regulations. S/he will have substantive expertise in infectious disease, engagement of the private sector in US Government programming and management of US Government programming in global programs.

Availability of position is contingent upon funding availability and USAID approval.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities for the project to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Lead and direct the project team to develop and execute overall project strategy and work plan and achievement of project results
  • Monitor implementation of activities within the work plan, ensuring that activities are performed to a high professional standard, effectively implemented, and will fulfill donor and FHI 360 requirements
  • Establish and maintain relationships with USAID Washington and Missions, a diverse set of project partners, developing country governments, international organizations, other bilateral donors, civil society representatives, social enterprises and private sector entities.
  • Attract and coordinate a diverse set of partners, across multiple geographies and health areas, to collaborate with one another and local stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Ensure and oversee a clear technical strategy for the project and guarantee that technical excellence permeates all project activities.
  • Serve as the public face for the program to share results, represent project achievements with stakeholders and identify potential new relationships to support project aims.
  • Oversee and ensure efficient execution of subawards across geographies and in compliance with USG and FHI 360 regulations
  • Monitor subaward compliance in conjunction with project team and oversee capacity development of partners to transition to direct USG funding
  • Identify issues and risks related to project implementation in a timely manner, and implement appropriate adjustments
  • Manage and supervise the work of key personnel, with a focus on core results, achievement of work plan and targets, and timely implementation

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; however a Master’s Degree strongly preferred in Public Health, Knowledge/Information Services, Communications, Education, Environment, Health, Behavioral, Life/Social Sciences, International Development, Human Development, or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience in project management; including and at least 10 years of senior-level experience managing large and complex USG-funded health programs;
  • Demonstrated experience in multi-sector project management and implementation;
  • Excellent leadership qualities with demonstrated ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams situated globally;
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating relationships and engaging with the private sector, social enterprises and local partners in order to achieve specific health goals;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope;
  • Demonstrated experience executing large program with tight timelines and producing strong deliverables;
  • Demonstrated experience building successful relationships with developing country governments, international organizations, bilateral donors, and civil society representatives;
  • Familiarity with USAID rules and regulations for cooperative agreements;
  • Excellent management, communication, and organization skills; and
  • French language skills preferred.
