About FHI 360’s Global Education, Engagement and Employment (G3E Business Unit)

FHI 360’s Global Education, Engagement and Employment (G3E) Business Unit plays a leading and widely recognized global role in five technical areas, including Civil Society and Peacebuilding, Economic Participation, Global Connections (specializing in exchanges, scholarships program management, online learning, and sports and youth), Global Education, and Research and Evaluation. G3E staff currently implement over 70 projects in all regions of the world. G3E funders have been and are diverse, ranging from US Government agencies (e.g., USAID, US Department of State, Millennium Challenge Corporation) to multilaterals (e.g., UNICEF, UNESCO), foundations and the private sector.

Job Summary:

The Senior Business Planning and Proposal Associate will be responsible for leading efforts to research, analyze, resource and track business development (BD) opportunities for the Global Education, Employment and Engagement (G3E) business units under the direction of the G3E Director for Business Development. He/she will facilitate steps for the approval of new business efforts for G3E, communicate and liaise regularly with other FHI 360 business units, regional offices and enterprise service departments on BD efforts and represent G3E BD interests during key meetings. He/she will oversee and coordinate strategies and initiatives to strengthen staff capacity to develop client-responsive and competitive proposals and identify, recommend and/or implement best practices for BD within G3E. At the direction of the G3E BD Director, he/she will gather and support the analysis of internal pipeline data to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities; gather market data and supports the analysis of trends/opportunities; create compelling internal and external BD trend analysis presentations and conduct other analyses as needed to augment or improve G3E BD efforts. S/he will work in collaboration with and leverage the resources of the Business Development and Diversification (BDD) department and other corporate stakeholders.

The Senior Business Planning and Proposal Associate will provide BD support and coordination to priority capture efforts contributing to the development of high-quality, client-responsive outputs. In complementarity to existing proposal team members, may contribute to stakeholder and competitive analyses, organizational chart design, strategic pricing, writing and editing for specific sections, drafting annexes and other tasks for both capture and live proposal efforts.

Accountabilities:

Pipeline management and data systems maintenance and quality assurance:

  • Supports G3E BD Director and G3E departments by leading the management of the G3E BD pipeline, including tracking opportunities, facilitating go/no-go analyses and discussions, informing partnership strategies, etc.
  • Ensures information in the proposal pipeline within Salesforce is accurate and up-to-date, working closely with G3E departments.  Tracks and reports on the status of all G3E proposals.
  • Monitors Salesforce data entry for G3E, supporting other licensed users within G3E to access, review and properly update opportunities.
  • Generates routine and ad hoc reports from salesforce to inform pipeline management, strategic planning, sales targeting, etc.
  • Manages and supports partnerships with donors and strategic partners by conducting research and analyses.
  • Works with Knowledge Exchange and G3E departments to manage and organize G3E capability statements and marketing tools.

G3E BD systems, process and staff capacity strengthening:

  • Supports G3E depts in assembling capture and proposal teams and identifying other resources, ensuring teams are properly equipped.
  • Identifies capacity development needs among G3E team members related to business development and develops and delivers (or brokers) targeted training and mentoring opportunities to address those needs.
  • Implements process improvement plans among cross–functional teams to achieve strategic goals.
  • Assists G3E departments with business strategies, planning, and other BD concerns or needs.
  • Maintains consultant and other BD resource networks/rosters.
  • Provides targeted capacity building assistance as required.
  • Provides orientation to new G3E staff on BD process.

Coordination and communication:

  • Supports BD Director by facilitating the coordination and communication with other Business Units, Regional Offices and Country Offices, including establishing regular meeting schedules.
  • Helps represent G3E in business development issues at internal management, technical and planning meetings
  • May provide administrative support to G3E BD Director and G3E staff for selected BD initiatives including conferences and meetings.
  • As requested, represents G3E with external stakeholders.

Capture and proposal team support:

  • As requested, provides targeted support to capture teams to complement existing resources. This may include support to a range of tasks including pre-proposal research and positioning, pre-proposal design, strategic pricing, stakeholder and competitor analysis, writing up draft sections, etc.
  • As requested, provides targeted support to proposal teams to complement existing resources. This may include project design, strategic pricing, drafting specific technical proposal sections, drafting annexes, editing, etc.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with business development.
  • Business development experience with USG agencies, especially USAID.
  • Familiarity with global education, civil society and peacebuilding, workforce strengthening, economic growth and/or international exchanges preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, terminology, and methodology of proposal development.
  • Extensive knowledge of proposal management conventions.
  • Effective organizational skills and track record for effectively managing proposal teams of diverse levels of seniority and experience.
  • Effective communication skills, required for providing diplomatic and constructive comments to clients. Skill in observing detail.
  • Ability to foster good customer relationships to build client base.
  • Ability to understand and follow written guidelines, including departmental policies, FHI 360 policies and procedures, and work orders.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and other staff.
  • Effective multi-tasking and flexibility to meet competing needs and sensitive deadlines.
  • Skill in abstracting, condensing, or writing general information for inclusion in proposal documents.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends and prepare reports.
  • Ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate with others.

Education:**

Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent • Business Administration, Public Health, Social Sciences or Related Field.

Experience:**

  • At least 5-8 years of experience with business development internationally. Preferred is 8 years.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managing proposals.
  • Knowledge of Project Management Professional (PMP), Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), Shipley Associates principles and/or other proposal processes.
  • Master’s Degree in international development or other related field preferred.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Overseas work experience preferred.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO).

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 5-50 lbs.
