Consultancy: Translation and proofreading of Guidelines for Judges and Lawyers 116 views

The International Commission of Jurists is a worldwide network of judges and lawyers united in affirming international law and rule of law principles that advance human rights.

The ICJ-European Institutions office (hereafter the ICJ-EI), based in Brussels, is implementing a project “JUSTICE: Judges Uniting to Stop Terrorism with International, Constitutional and European law” focused on criminal justice in countering terrorism in accordance with the rule of law and with human rights obligations and on the implementation on the EU Counter-terrorism Directive (Directive 2017/541) by judges and other legal professionals in the EU. Under this project the ICJ will produce a Guidelines for judges and lawyers on the implementation of the on the EU Counter-terrorism Directive.

The ICJ-EI is seeking to contract translators to translate the above-mentioned Guidelines into:

· Spanish

· French

· German

· Dutch

· Italian

Approximate length: between 15.000 and 20.000 words

Material sample: available upon request

Overview of the consultancy

Deliverables: Translation of Guidelines from English to one of the following languages: Dutch, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Please note that all references (including but not limited to) the European Convention of Human Rights mentioned in the Guidelines will not require translation as an official translation already exists.

Time frame: October 15th to November 1st, 2020.

Fee: The final fee is defined according to the amount of text to be translated in relation with the pricing provided by translator. The defined budget is inclusive of all costs such as consultancy fees (translation and proofreading by another translator), VAT (if applicable), costs of software and other communication tools, etc.

Qualifications:

· Significant experience / track-record in the legal translations;

· Ability to adapt to tight deadlines;

· Be established / registered in a EU Member State (UK is not considered as EU member state anymore).

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;

· Ability to work in multicultural teams and to work in an autonomous manner;

· Commitment to / interest in human rights and the rule of law,
