Background

This call for applications is open for persons with the citizenship of one of the OSCE participating States, excluding the sole citizenship of the Republic of Serbia. Persons who are older than 30 years on the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice or who have already served six months of internship in the OSCE, irrespective of the duty station, are not eligible to apply.

The Office of the Head of Mission (OHoM) of the OSCE Mission to Serbia is looking for a Communication Intern for its Political, Communication and Reporting Section (PCRS).

The incumbent will undertake an unpaid internship for the duration of up to six months, subject to the requirements of the service and satisfactory performance by the incumbent. Please note that all internships with the OSCE are unpaid. The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration during the period of internship nor reimburse travel expenses to or from the place of assignment.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The selected intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview of the work of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, focusing on communication and public information. Under the supervision of the National Political and Press Affairs Officer, the intern will carry out the following duties:

Draft the daily Headline news review and daily news updates; Deliver the morning press briefing for the Mission’s senior staff; Draft feature stories for the OSCE Mission to Serbia’s website; Assist in the preparation of the Mission’s communication material, including press releases, media advisories, etc.; Research and identify new opportunities to enhance public awareness of the OSCE Mission’s work and activities, to improve its public profile through its social media platforms by engaging followers in dynamic and interactive ways; Assist in designing and co-ordinating social media initiatives with the aim of breaking down the complexities of issues dealt with by the Mission and bringing it closer to the Serbian public; Assist in organizing the Mission’s outreach activities; Perform other duties as required.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Citizenship of one of the OSCE participating States, excluding the sole citizenship of the Republic of Serbia;
  • Applicants should be under the age of 30 on the date of the deadline of this vacancy;
  • Applicants who have already served six months of internship in the OSCE, irrespective of the duty station, are not eligible to apply;
  • University degree in political studies, law, international relations, or completion of at least three years of full-time studies in the aforementioned fields from an accredited institution;
  • Previous experience with drafting and editing communication material and articles would be an asset;
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills;
  • Fluency in Serbian would be an asset;
  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills;
  • Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft packages;
  • Ability and willingness to work with people of different nationalities, cultural and religious backgrounds and diverse political views while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

Remuneration Package

The incumbent will undertake an internship in the duration of up to six months, starting approx. on 15 September 2020. Candidates are requested to indicate their availability dates in the cover letter.

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover expenses incurred by the intern. However, some compensation towards the cost of living will be offered to interns who do not reside in Belgrade as the place of assignment and who do not receive financial support from an educational institution. In 2020, this compensation amounts to EUR 12.5 per day (i.e. 10% of the Board and Lodging Allowance).

The selected interns must provide evidence of health insurance coverage which is valid for Serbia, otherwise they shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance for the period of their internship, in which case they shall pay the corresponding premium in full (EUR 98.82 per month). The OSCE shall bear the premium costs of group life and accident/disability insurance.

Participation in an internship program does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
