Summary

BBC Media Action is seeking trainers to support its project implementation in Ukraine.

· Number of trainees per trainer: up to 10;

· Training duration: maximum of 5 days per training proposed;

· Dates: December 2019 / January 2020 (TBC);

· Deadline for application: 04 December 2019;

· Deadline to send questions: 28 November 2019;

· Location: Ukraine, Kyiv.

Section A – Background

BBC Media Action is currently implementing a project that supports broadcasters in Ukraine in improving their digital multi-platform newsroom and creating a permanent basis for quality and objective news content for all population segments (television, radio, and social media).

Section B – Project’s aims

The project aims at providing Digital News Team staff with the necessary training on digital news production and dissemination, ensuring that they build their skills in covering news through their digital platforms and increase their reach and audience. Training would cover the following:

· Social Media strategy. Objective: Support the team in developing an overarching social media strategy, measuring success and monitoring engagement and metrics.

· Social media management and promotion on digital platforms. Objective: the team will learn how to use practical tools to assess and understand social media platforms, identify and target audiences, adapt a social media strategy according to audience needs, increase reach and engagement, manage campaigns, monitor and continuously assess results.

· Production of outputs for social media. Objective: the team will learn how to produce engaging posts (this includes storytelling for social media), what are some of the engaging topics suitable for social media audiences, and what are the key principles for producing posts across different platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Telegram).

· Technical training on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere. Objective: the team will learn how to use primarily Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere (possibly combined with other adobe CC tools) to maximise the quality of the digital outputs;

· Writing news headlines training. Objective: the team will learn how to write short and catchy headlines and learn how to adapt headlines for social networks (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Telegram) and Google searches (SEO headlines).

. SEO training for social media. Objective: the team will learn how to tailor news and publications to search engine queries and how to promote their posts on search engines.

Section C – Profile of trainers:

Trainers applying for this call will need to:

1) Have previous experience in delivering training classroom-based AND on-the-job training and mentorship;

2) Have experience working in Ukraine or Eastern Europe;

3) Have an understanding of the local context and current affairs in the region as well as the use of social networks in the region;

4) Have solid experience in developing and working on content specifically for digital platforms;

5) Have a strong understanding of BBC’s editorial guidelines; and

5) Possess one or more of the following skills:

a) Skills in conceptualising, developing, and producing content for digital platforms;

b) Skills in understanding audiences and managing content across various social media platforms, including designing SM strategies, promoting content, increasing engagement and reach, and managing social media campaigns;

c) Skills in using and training on digital software and tools for content production and post-production;
