How can you make a difference?

The FSNAU has projected deterioration in the nutrition and food security situation around Mudug region in the coming months which could trigger an increase in the number of IDPs in the region. The purpose of this assessment is to provide rapid information on the spatial representation of coverage in Gaalkacyo IDP camps to enable UNICEF and partners take immediate remedial action to improve coverage before the deterioration in the food and nutrition situation in the area. The consultancy will support MoH to conduct a SLEAC survey to guide an informed IMAM scale up strategy. The role of the consultant is threefold; i) develop the methodology to conduct SLEAC survey in selected areas, ii) train data collection teams nominated by the ministry of health (MoH) and iii) oversee the overall implementation of the coverage survey and formulate feasible and realistic recommendations for action.

Objectives:

• To evaluate access and coverage of Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) program using SLEAC methodology in Gaalkacyo IDP camps
• Identify factors affecting uptake of the IMAM services among IDP communities
• Develop in collaboration with MoH, UNICEF, WFP and the nutrition cluster specific recommendations to improve acceptance and coverage of the IMAM services among IDP communities surveyed

Detailed Terms of Reference:

To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the consultant will undertake the following:

• Knowledge consolidation through desk review of available materials on previous SLEAC/LQA/SQUEAC surveys conducted by stakeholders in the country
• Prepare a pre-survey presentation of the methodology and share it with the Assessment and Information Management Working Group (AIMWG) in Mogadishu for vetting and approval.
• Train survey teams to conduct field work collecting high quality information
• Supervise a full coverage survey (survey planning, data collection, analysis and reporting) in all the targeted areas
• Present to the AIMWG a draft SLEAC survey report including background, methodology, results, limitations, conclusions and recommendations (short term and medium-term)
• Present the final SLEAC report incorporating the feedback from UNICEF and AIM Working Group
• Submit all the data and analysis outputs (both raw and final) electronically to UNICEF and MoH

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• An advanced university degree in one of the following fields: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another health-related science field
• Proven experience of a minimum of eight (08) years of conducting community-based studies including coverage surveys such as SQUEAC/SLEAC/LQAs

• Knowledge in designing and implementing IMAM and IYCF programs
• Effective communication skills, able to effectively present information clearly and respond appropriately to questions from Government, UN and NGO staff and other relevant stakeholders
• Strong supervisory and organizational skills. Ability to work on own initiative and meet tight deadlines
• Able to cope with stressful circumstances and hardships; patience and flexibility and willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines
• Language(s) Fluent in Writing, Listening and Speaking English
