Organizational Setting
FAO is supporting the League of Arab States (LAS) in developing a Regional Strategic Framework and Action Plan (RSFAP) on Achieving SDG2 and Ending Hunger in the Arab Region. The International Consultant with work closely with the Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department (SDIC) of LAS, FAO Team and the Regional Consultant to lead the development of the RSFAP.
Reporting Lines
The International Consultant reports to FAO Policy Officer under the overall guidance of the Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative, RNE and the technical guidance of the Regional Programme Leader.
Technical Focus
Lead the preparation of RSFAP following a consultative process that incorporate inputs of Member States, LAS’s Sub-Committee on Ending Hunger, as well as LAS and FAO teams.
- Strategies development
- Design and facilitation of high-level consultation meetings
- Various reports as per the above deliverables
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Use various inputs, prepare a draft RSFAP following thorough analysis of regional trends and, progress on SDG2 as well as prioritization of strategic accelerators to achieve SDG2 (and relevant targets of other SDGs) in the Arab Region and, a design of sound implementation arrangements,
- Design and facilitate consultation meetings with various stakeholders in collaboration with the Regional Consultant and the FAO / LAS teams
- Prepare detailed reports on the consultation meetings
- Revise draft versions based on the outcomes of the consultation meetings as well as the feedback from various stakeholders
- Present RSFAP to LAS, FAO, the Sub-Committee on Ending Hunger and other stakeholders
- Perform any other agreed tasks with the LTO
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree or equivalent in relevant areas of studies such as Agriculture Economics, Public Policy, Social and Political Sciences, Economics, Development Studies, Nutrition or other related disciplines;
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in producing strategic documents;
- Working knowledge of English and at least limited knowledge of Arabic or French;

Technical/Functional Skills
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work is desirable.

- Be flexible and responsive to changes as part of the review and feedback process;
- Working knowledge of English and Arabic or French;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and working in multicultural environment
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of Arabic is considered a strong asset
- Thorough knowledge of one or more of the key fields of SDG2
- Knowledge of similar regional initiatives and/or the Arab Region will be considered a strong asset
