Our team and mission

The team works towards the objective of improving the overall data quality of ESA Explorer, third-party and all Copernicus missions. The aim is to enhance remote-sensing products at all different levels and develop new algorithms and user products to strive towards an ever- improving offer of satellite products to the global user community. The team consists of experts in active and passive remote-sensing of the oceans, land surfaces and the atmosphere working together to develop visions and strategies to provide the most accurate satellite data products possible.

Field(s) of activity

As a YGT you will be involved in the validation, analysis and algorithm development of polar microwave remote sensing and/or altimetry-based products measured from past, current and future ESA EO satellites.

The scope of the Traineeship encompasses the definition of infrastructures, tools and data bases that will be used for the validation of polar EO products. You will work on the definition and methodologies for providing a Reference Measurement Data Set.

You will work on the ‘new’ concept of Fiducial Reference Measurement (FRM) applying a metrology approach for a validation data set. The metrology approach consists in deriving a precise and traceable uncertainty budget for the validation measurement.

You should have just completed, or be in the final year of a university course at Master’s level (or equivalent) in a technical or scientific discipline, in particular physics, engineering or earth science.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

You should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
