The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Officer III to support in the African Swine fever vaccine development.
ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org
Responsibilities

Direct responsibility for planning animal experiments, outputs of projects and creating new tools, methods, approaches.
- Viral work, growth of ASFV and titrations.
- Planning and execution of pig animal experiments, including protection experiments.
- Assessment of immune responses and correlations using ELISpot screening of CD8 cells and CD4 cells, and ELISAs.
- Working with existing partners (J.Craig Venter Institute, Friedrich Loeffler Institute.
- Conducting science of an international standard and establishing a publications record.

- Staff supervisory responsibility, supervision of technician (s).
- Participation in proposal development and report writing to funder (the former, if relevant calls are available and timing fits).
Requirements
- M.Sc. in immunology or related field
- 5-7 years of working experience
- Experience in immunology, preferably also virology
- Experience with clinical trials, animal experiments, preferably pig experiments or other clinical trials
- Experience with the following methods is desirable: IFN-ELISpot, ELISA, neutralization assay, PCR
- Experience in teamwork/management of technicians
- Excellent communication skills
Terms of Appointment
This position is at job level HG 14and open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is a 2 year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes; pension, medical and other insurances
