  • In line with the new Country Programme Document for UNDP Iraq (CPD 2020-2024), which aims to support the Government of Iraq’s vision for a sustainable peaceful Iraq ,UNDP Iraq has now developed a new program on social cohesion which will work in four main areas that include 1) Strengthening the national frameworks for peace and social cohesion, 2) strengthening inter-linking community infrastructures for social cohesion at multi-levels 3) supporting and Strengthened capacities and resources of academia and research institutions and actors to lead social cohesion and 4) working with media institution and media professionals to improved advocacy and public awareness.

    UNDP will also mainstream conflict sensitive approaches to all its programming to address the underlying challenges of exclusion, marginalization and societal divisions through each pillar to contribute to address key drivers of conflict. Based on its mandate, comparative advantage, global and regional experience, and knowledge, UNDP will support use of analytical tools- such as social cohesion index, conflict development analysis (CDA) and M&E instruments for PVE to inform social cohesion and risk management strategies. It will adopt and introduce innovative approaches to use social media and social local networks to engage youth and women to address the social and development challenges through accelerators labs and use of digital technology.  Considering the differentiated national, regional and local needs and priorities, UNDP will support solution pathways based on area-based consultative approaches and analytical tools such as local conflict and risk assessments, building on the lessons and knowledge from the current social cohesion interventions. In addition, UNDP will support the GOI to develop and implement a social cohesion agenda that promotes conflict resolution mechanisms, dialogue and trust building measures, as well as enable peaceful coexistence and prevent future radicalization and recruitment to violent extremist groups.

    Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Team Leader of the Social Cohesion Pillar, the Senior Project Officer for Peace Education Will lead the component related to supporting the formal and informal education service-providers to promote peace and social cohesion knowledge and skills including analysis , monitoring and measuring social cohesion. He or she will be responsible of the planning implementation of activities related to this area as outlined in the project document and the work plan.

     

    Ensures provision of support to management of ongoing project activities, focusing on achievement of the following results:

    • Assist in gathering input in the elaboration of work plan for interventions in Iraq including KRI on promotion of social cohesion, community mobilization and conflict mitigation in line with the current context of KRI and Iraq;
    • Assist in arranging logistics, preparing agenda and coordinating with related stakeholders for organizing workshops as and when required;
    • Assist in minutes taking for program/project meetings and in drafting research reports as required;
    • Identify entry points for multi-cultural/trust-building/community solidarity activities for social cohesion and support youth groups, NGOs/CSOs/CBOs in Iraq including KRI to implement these activities, including youth peace-education and conflict mitigation;
    • Assist in coordinating of the planned events of the projects and collaborate with experts/staff in relevant projects in the sub-office, such as Stabilization, Environment, LADP teams, to ensure collaboration and sharing of lessons with the social cohesion activities in Iraq including KRI;
    • Assist in drafting inputs for the social cohesion project’s reports in in Iraq including KRI.

     

    Ensures effective administrative and logistical services, focusing on achievement of the following results:

    • Contacts with visitors and project personnel, arrangement of appointments and meetings in in Iraq including KRI under UNDP’s Social Cohesion Pillar;
    • Acting as an interpreter when required and/or taking minutes;
    • Compilation and preparation of briefing and presentation materials, speeches, background information and documentation for meetings and missions;
    • Translation of simple correspondences from Kurdish/Arabic to English and vice versa, when needed;
    • Maintenance of records/ documents/ files relating to the project in a user-friendly manner;
    • Administrative support to conferences, workshops, retreats;
    • Assistance in proper control of supporting documents for payments and financial reports;
    • Check related forms delivered by Implementing partners for completion before submitting to the Finance Assistant for verification;
    • Follow up on deadlines, commitments made, actions taken and coordination of collection and submission of the reports to UNDP’s Social Cohesion Pillar.

     

    Ensure effective project maintenance and management of the day-to-day activities on social cohesion, Peace Education and community mobilization under social cohesion pillar and other related projects in Iraq including KRI focusing on achievement of the following results:

    • Be responsible for assigned correspondence and other admin tasks including creating E-requisitions;
    • Proper receipting of goods and services;
    • Preparation of routine correspondence, faxes, memorandum and reports to partners;
    • Extracting, inputting, copying and filing data from various sources as required;
    • Assisting in organizing, executing and coordinating logistical requirements by drawing up an event time-line, programme schedule and checklist for successful holding of events;
    • Extraction of data from various sources;
    • Assistance in the preparation of budget, provision of information for audit specifically for social cohesion projects in Iraq including KRI.

     

    Other tasks:

    • Assist in Providing support to staff capacity building as requested;
    • Participate in Task Forces and other ad-hoc internal working groups on cross-cutting themes as requested;
    • Perform any other tasks as required by project manager.

    • Informed and transparent decision making
    • High school degree;
    • Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or any other relevant discipline is desirable.
    • Minimum (5) years (with high school degree), or minimum (3) years (with Diploma), or minimum (2) years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant of relevant experience in social development, community development, or peace-building or related field;
    • Experience working with UN is an advantage;
    • Experience on community mobilization and engagement and social cohesion, addressing issues of community development and conflict mitigation is desirable;
    • Experience in post conflict environment with knowledge of socio-economic, culture, and community development issues in Iraq;
    • Proficiency in usage of computers, office software packages and advance project management software as well as in handling of web-based management system.
    • Fluency in English and Arabic, both spoken and written is required;
    • Fluency in Kurdish is a strong advantage.
