Country Context

Oxfam Country Strategy for Kenya was approved in 2015 for five years and will come to an end in March 2020. Based on the current strategy, the programme has undergone significant change process, adapting from a more direct approach to one of exclusively influencing. Core programme thematic areas focus on Governance and Accountability, Natural Resources, Women s Right and Humanitarian Systems Strengthening. Building active citizens, campaigning and popular mobilisation, innovation and strategic capacity building and working with non-traditional partners is a hallmark of the country programme. Inequality lens is applied through all our programme and therefore understanding power and gender relations is key. Specific, yet integrated, programme strategies have been developed to achieve impact at scale.

Oxfam Kenya advocates for a one programme approach and therefore works on a multitude of activities that support a holistic approach to humanitarian, development and campaigns such that long lasting change happens whilst fulfilling Oxfam s humanitarian mandate, within its increasingly influencing approach.

In Kenya, we have the Oxfam International Headquarters registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Pan Africa Programme, and the Regional Platform are also hosted in Kenya under the Oxfam International registration. Oxfam Kenya is hosted under the registration of Oxfam Great Britain (GB). Oxfam GB is part of Oxfam International (OI), which is a world-wide confederation of 19 organisations working for change and development. OI s vision is a just world without poverty. Oxfam s work in response to humanitarian need in more than 65 countries. Hundreds of thousands of supporters and volunteers make up our international network of concern, action and solidarity

Oxfam in Kenya is a OI country programme, with a back office support from Oxfam GB which is the Executing Affiliate for OI in the country. Kenya country programme also has the privilege of support from Partner Affiliates that provide funding, thematic expertise, knowledge sharing and influencing capacity.
