UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a Geneva Based internship within the Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Service (RCPS) in the Division of International Protection in our Geneva Headquarters in Switzerland. The intern will be an integral part of the Complementary Pathways Team at the Service.

Organizational context

The RCPS strategic functions focus on the implementation of the Three-year Strategy (2019-2021) on Resettlement and Complementary Pathways, developed under the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR). One of the primary goals of the Strategy is the growth and expansion of complementary pathways for admission to third countries. In order to advance this objective the RCPS is working to improve the coordination, information sharing of good practices and guidance through enhanced internal and external communication and engagement through digital technology and channels.

The position

The Complementary Pathways Intern (Digital Engagement) will assist the CPs Unit with the development and management of the UNHCRÂ’s intranet, Microsoft Teams Collaboration and SharePoint sites, user engagement and user training. He will also assist updating the UNHCR Public Website on Complementary Pathways.

The CPs Intern will function under the supervision of the Policy Officer (Complementary Pathways) in the RCSP with functional guidance and oversight from Sr. Resettlement Officer (Complementary Pathways) and the Digital Engagement Section in the Division of External Relations (DER) at the UNHCR Headquarters.

Duties and responsibilities

Â’ Assist in developing and implementing key actionable digital impact reporting documents relevant to Complementary Pathways. This will require the collection of data across multiple sources creating reporting dashboards (PowerBI), reporting and providing actionable insights on all applicable online performance metrics globally.

Â’ Assist in developing, overseeing and updating the content and layout of the UNHCR Complementary Pathways Internet and Intranet sites, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Sites.

Â’ Assist with construction of new sections and pages, and posting content as per the UNHCR web, editorial and branding standards.

Â’ Liaise with colleagues within UNHCR to identify possible content.

Â’ Collect Intranet, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint sites and user feedback

Â’ Act as a helpdesk for user queries

Â’ Assist in liaising on a technical level with consultants and vendors related to digital engagement developments and products.

Â’ Assist in organizing formal and ad-hoc training for users and relevant stakeholders on the relevant digital platforms.

Â’ Assist with other tasks as required including: o Support the planning and execution of Geneva based events and draft agendas, take notes and talking points

o Assist in the event management

o Assist in the post-event/ workshop feedback analysis and report.

o Liaise with graphic designers and facilitate print productions when required.

Essential minimum qualifications: In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: Â’ Recent graduates (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university of higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and

Â’ Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.

Please note that candidates who have immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members of UNHCR are not eligible.

Desirable qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate will have: Â’ Education and experience in Digital Communications (social media, web, etc.) (required)

Â’ Experience creating and managing websites (e.g. Drupal, WordPress)

Â’ Research, Reporting and Communication skills.

Â’ Knowledge of design software a plus (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) /Basic Photoshop skills would be an asset.

Â’ Ability to digest large amounts of information to provide presentable and actionable data (required)

Â’ Experience of using Microsoft Power BI for creating dashboards (required)

Â’ Advance Excel skills and experience using Microsoft Office (required)

Â’ Knowledge of using Microsoft Teams and Share Point Sites is an asset.

Â’ Good understanding of current online/digital technology (required)

Â’ Good understanding of issues related to forced displacement.

Â’ Quick learner who is self-motivated, has a positive approach and eager to grow their capabilities (required)

Â’ Strong writing skills and technological literacy and ability to use a wide range of web related applications (required)

Â’ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity (required)

Â’ Excellent verbal and written skills, with a precise attention to detail (required)

Language requirements: Â’ Fluency in written and spoken English is essential

Â’ Working knowledge of French, Arabic and/or Spanish would be an asset but is not essential

Location: The successful candidate will be based with the team at the UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Conditions & Allowances: It is a full-time role with working hours starting from

  • 00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
