Background

The Investment Operations Department (INO) of IDB Invest generates a portfolio of high quality, creditworthy, and environmentally and socially sound projects that result in significant development impact. INO follows a matrix model, with three Segment Divisions covering Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates, and three transversal areas such as the Financial Products and Services Division (in charge of Equity & Mezz, DCM & Structured Finance, Trade & Supply Chain Finance and Syndications), the Advisory Services and Blended Finance Team and the Portfolio Management Division.

The Team

The Financial Products and Services Division (FNP) is responsible for contributing to the origination and execution of sustainable projects with significant development impact throughout the deal cycle including origination, due diligence, structuring and documentation, in close coordination with the Infrastructure and Energy, Corporates and Financial Institutions Divisions and the Advisory Services and Blended Finance Team. The Head of Equity & Mezzanine will report to the Division Chief of FNP and will coordinate with other organizational units of IDB Invest and IDB, as needed.

What you will do:

• Assess the equity & mezzanine workflows, systems and templates in place and propose changes as needed. Develop key relationships by liaising with industry experts, potential clients, potential partners and other stakeholders, being coordinated with Segment Divisions’ Heads, as well as with other supporting areas.
• Perform preliminary evaluation and selection of equity & mezzanine across a range of countries and segments.
• Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions. Assess and structure transactions to improve the potential for commercial co-financing and catalyzing of additional sources of capital.
• Coordinate closely with Segment Divisions’ Heads as well as with other supporting areas (e.g. environmental, social & governance, finance, development effectiveness, legal, and risk functions) as it relates to pipeline development, project structuring, approval and supervision of equity & mezzanine transactions.

• Promote knowledge of country specific financial markets, equity & mezzanine transactions. Coordinate preparation of lessons learned from projectsDisseminates information to project teams on transaction strengths, weaknesses, risks and risk mitigation options.
• Guide and mentor of the professionals in the Division, crafting training programs, if they are needed.

Qualifications

Skills you’ll need:

Education: An advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or other field.

Experience: At least 18 years of meaningful experience in project origination, structuring and/or portfolio management,leading transactions. Investment experience in equity, mezzanine and acquisitions. Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean, in a private equity firm, a bank or other multi-lateral organization. . Strong financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills will be considered.

Languages: Proficient in English and Spanish; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
