Anova’s Public Health team provides strategic, public health and analytics support to Anova and its programmes, fostering evidence-informed decision-making. The Epidemiologist will provide support to the Western Cape Department of Health and help build capacity for data analytics/use. The successful incumbent will be a leader in analytics in HIV programmes. With Anova’s Public Health Specialist and Public Health Team, incumbent will help implement the provincial data analytics and solutions required for stakeholders and Anova programmes.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Work within the Western Cape Department of Health to conduct data analysis for strategic planning and to inform operations.
• Engage with key stakeholders in the Department of Health and Anova to understand their data use needs and gaps.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement a strategy to strengthen data analytics and use.
• Provide capacity building to Department of Health and Anova staff on data analysis and use.
• Produce and disseminate reports for programme activities and innovations.
• Participate in relevant internal meetings and strategic platforms.
• Strengthen Anova’s network of partnerships in the public health arena.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Masters degree in Public Health or any related field.
• At least 5 years’ experience in HIV/ TB or related field.
• Ability to summarise, interpret and visualise complex data.
• Experience working in the South African public health services.
• Scientific report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people.
• Excellent problem solving skills.
• Excellent communication, report writing & interpersonal skills.
• Resilience to change.
