NCA Emergency Preparedness Roster provides NCA with the needed human resources to ensure that qualified and trained personnel are readily available to deploy to NCA’s humanitarian operations. Our Emergency Preparedness Roster provides support capacity to NCA field offices as well as partners within the ACT alliance and/or UN agencies. Members of the Emergency Roster sign a 2-year Letter of Intent with NCA. This Letter of Intent states that within a two-year period, roster members will be available to be deployed when called upon.

We are now seeking experienced Security Advisors to join our Emergency Preparedness Roster. We are looking for personnel that can be available for short to medium length missions to our County Offices and/or humanitarian responses in order to carry out risk assessments, support staff training and/or support crisis management. As our new roster member, you are educated and have relevant work experience within security management. Ideally, you have managed the security of an operational NGO in a high-risk environment (not necessarily as a security advisor but also as area/programme manager or similar) and are familiar with NGO security mitigation and best practices.

    Essential skills and experience:

    • Ability to carry out security risk assessments for NGO operations.
    • Experience with risk or conflict analysis, preferably while in-country.
    • Proficiency with security crisis management.
    • Experience with training, capacity building and the ability to:
      • Deliver security trainings for NGO staff in medium-high risk environments.
      • Run first aid trainings.
      • Carry out crisis management exercises.
    • Experience in humanitarian negotiations and access assessments.
    • Experience in the police or the military can be an advantage, but this is not a requirement.
    • Fluency in English (written and spoken). Arabic, French and/or Portuguese are an asset.

    Personal qualities:

    • Humanitarian. First and foremost, you are motivated by NCA’s mission to help the poor and realise a just world. You believe in the humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence.
    • Leadership skills. You are willing to make hard choices and voice your opinion. You understand the importance of remaining calm and decisive in a crisis.
    • Analytical. You quickly understand and identify security problems facing country programmes and can figure out ways to resolve or mitigate them.
    • Communication. You can simplify and explain complex situations and concepts. You have the ability to present contentious topics, train accordingly, and write in a clear and concise manner.
    • People Skills. You are patient. You know when to build consensus and when to lead, when to persuade and when to challenge. You can work across cultures and management levels and build strong networks.

    We can offer:

    • Short- and long-term contracts
    • A tough, challenging and exciting position whose main function is to deliver humanitarian aid
    • Opportunity to play a key role in shaping the crisis response for one of Norway’s largest humanitarian organizations.
    • Competitive terms and conditions and a comprehensive insurance policy
    • Opportunity to build capacity and improve the security management in NCA
